DESCRIPTION:

The City of Ansonia is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police.  The new Police Chief shall possess a strong knowledge of, as well as having the ability to implement modern methods, practices, and principles of police investigation, organization, and administration.  Our new Police Chief shall have   previous experience demonstrating effective leadership qualities regarding personnel management, supervision, and business administration.  It will be the new Police Chief’s responsibility to ensure the implementation of goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and standards for our police department which consists of forty-six (46) sworn police officers and approximately ten (10) civilian personnel.

Located approximately twelve (12) miles north of New Haven, Connecticut and fifteen (15) miles south of Waterbury, Connecticut, the City of Ansonia was once described primarily as a manufacturing city. With a progressive and common-sense plan, Ansonia (approximately 6.2 square miles and a population of approximately 19,000 citizens) is currently being recharged by attracting small businesses, retail stores, restaurants, and eateries.  The City of Ansonia has approved and dedicated twelve (12) million dollars to and is currently in the final stages of constructing a new police facility.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

Possess Bachelor’s Degree (B.S. or B.A) or higher.  Preferred in Criminal Justice, Police Science, Public Administration or related field.

Possession of Police Officer certification, currently POST certified in Connecticut

Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively varied and responsible active service as a Police Officer.

At least three (3) years experience working in a high-level supervisory role in a police department; Chief, Assistant Chief or 2nd in command need only apply.

Must be physically fit and successfully pass a medical examination.

The successful results of a criminal background investigation.  This background check may be completed on the recommended candidate as required by regulations set forth by the State of Connecticut Police Officer Standards and Training Council. 

Successfully pass an oral examination performed by a competent outside authority selected by the City of Ansonia, Board of Police Commissioners.

Successful completion of interview to be conducted by City of Ansonia, Board of Police Commissioners.

 

WORK CONDITIONS AND BENEFITS

Available twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.

Salary range $134,000 – to be determined.  The Mayor and/or the Board of Police Commissioners will negotiate the salary and benefits package.

The prospective Chief candidate will sign a contract agreement prior to assuming said position.
