POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Under the supervision of the Director of Public Safety (Chief of Police), this position is responsible for assisting with the management and operation of the University Police Department and acts for the Director in his/her absence. Position requires 24-hr-a-day emergency availability. Responsible for coordination of emergency planning and special events. Responsible for drafting departmental policies and procedures and oversight of police accreditation. Oversight of traffic and parking lot operations, including the selection and supervision of lot monitors, the registration of all vehicles on campus and record-keeping. Oversees the contract of the campus shuttle bus services. Responsible for oversight of internal affairs investigations of complaints filed against department personnel. Serves as department liaison with the Protective Services Employees Coalition and any other unions which represent department personnel. Assists the Director with the preparation of various narrative and statistical reports. Responsible for service contracts and maintenance of life/safety equipment. Acts as liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies, and with fire safety, environmental and other outside agencies. Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of responsibility of the position. QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as criminal justice or security management required. Master’s preferred. Ten years police experience, including at least three years in development of policies and procedures is required. A certified law enforcement officer in the state of Connecticut pursuant to the regulation promulgated by the Police Officers Standards and Training Council. With the exception of police certification from POSTC, these qualifications may be waived for individuals with appropriate alternate experience.
