Salary range:     $86,999- $126,494 (with an excellent fringe benefits package)

General Knowledge:

The Connecticut General Assembly is currently seeking a law enforcement professional to direct the operations of the State Capitol Police Department which consists of 31 sworn officers and up to 21 civilian employees.  At the direction of the Executive Director of the Joint Committee on Legislative Management, the Chief is responsible for planning, organizing and administrating the programs and policies of the State Capitol Police Department including, but not limited to, safety and security services, crime prevention, crowd control activities, and parking and traffic control. The State Capitol Police Department has been CALEA certified since 2003.

Minimum Requirements:

Candidates must possess ten years of relevant and field experience in law enforcement, seven of which must be at the rank of lieutenant or higher and include supervision of sworn personnel. The successful candidate must have a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or other relevant area or a combination of related experience and education; be eligible for certification by the Police Officer Standards and Training Council as a Connecticut Police Officer; pass a physical examination prior to appointment, which ensures that the candidate possesses sufficient physical ability to perform essential job functions; and pass a thorough background check including a criminal records check, a psychological exam and a polygraph.

The successful candidate will also have outstanding communication and customer service

skills; knowledge and experience with Law Enforcement Accreditation Processes;

experience with card access systems and security issues; and experience with community policing
